Garfield is getting an Animated Feature
Alcon Entertainment has won the film rights to the comic strip Garfield, created by Jim Davis.
Davis will executive produce on a fully animated film adaptation. This will be the fat cat's first film appearances since the live-action adaptation back in 2004.
The comic strip follows Garfield as he lazes about his owner's apartment, pines for lasagna, and judges his owner and his owner's other pet.
The character arrived in 1978 and made his pop culture mark in the 80s. It's estimated that the character has been read by 260 million people over the course of a lifespan that's seen him appear in 2,580 newspapers and journals worldwide.
Alcon is hoping to develop a franchise of CG-animated Garfield films. The company is also behind the upcoming Blade Runner sequel.
