Gary Dauberman To Direct Stephen King's 'Salem's Lot Adaptation
The writer behind both "Conjuring" spin-offs - Annabelle and The Nun - as well as Stephen King’s IT and IT: Chapter 2 has signed a deal to direct New Line’s ‘Salem’s Lot adaptation.
It’s a deal that doesn’t come as a total surprise since Dauberman had previously signed a deal to adapt King’s novel about a small Maine town (JeruSALEM’s Lot) that eventually becomes overrun by vampires. Of course, fans of King’s book are likely no strangers to Tobe Hooper’s chilling but dated two-part miniseries. Interestingly, New Line’s adaptation will mark the big-screen debut of King's 1975 novel.
Dauberman expressed his excitement to tackle one of his "favorite" King books in a recent interview with SlashFilm:
"I did have a unique way into it but again, I think the book in itself is unique. Certainly now, I haven’t seen a scary vampire movie in a long, long time and I’d really love to tackle that. It’s one of my favorite books. It’s one of my favorite Stephen King books. We felt it should have the cinematic treatment that we gave It. It was a miniseries as well. The experience of bringing that to the big screen was such a joy that I was so happy we will have the opportunity to do that for Salem’s Lot."
Say what you will about either Annabelle or The Nun spin-offs (they're bad) but if Dauberman did not have his hand in either IT or IT: Chapter 2 adaptations I would say it's anywhere but up for the talented filmmaker. Which, thankfully is not the case.
What say you?
