George Clooney Chimes in on Controversial #OscarsSoWhite Debate
George Clooney has weighed in on the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, backing up Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith's comments and lining up with actor David Oyelowo (Selma) and Academy President Cheryl Boone Issacs, whom believe big changes need to happen sooner rather than later.
Heavily publicised, the controversy stems from back to back nominations lists that exclude any actors or filmmakers of colour from the major awards categories. Clooney won't be boycotting the Oscars, though he does have a few select words.
"If you think back 10 years ago, the Academy was doing a better job. Think about how many more African Americans were nominated. I would also make the argument, I don't think it's a problem of who you're picking as much as it is: How many options are available to minorities in film, particularly in quality films?"
Clooney gives us something to think about.
