George Lucas Describes Letting go of Star Wars, Poor Choice of Words
George Lucas has been edging around the launch of the first non-Lucas helmed Star Wars film for some time, not saying a lot but not saying nothing either. Well, he's continued 'not saying a lot', but what came out of his mouth is a little... alarming.
"You have to just cut it off and say, 'okay, end of ballgame. I'm moving on,'" Lucas said in an interview with Charlie Rose (no, that's not the controversial part).
"I loved them, I created them," Lucas said, comparing the franchise to his children. Eventually, you have to just let them go, accept that the "children" are gone. That's not the bad part either. Next he said, "I sold them to the white slavers that takes these things, and...", before laughing and leaving the comment incomplete.
Clearly, this seems like a slip of the tongue, absolutely not intended the way he meant it. Although, maybe somewhere up in his head, he did mean it.
The film has already made a quarter of what Lucas sold the property for, and is on the heels of Avatar as it continues to knock records over.
