Guillermo's Cold War Fantasy Film Gets a Title

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Guillermo Del Toro has made a career out of delivering strange and fantastical stories, which has gained him an avid fan base but ensures he's also quite divisive, not unlike a Quentin Tarantino.

The director seems to be announcing a new project every other week, while leaving Hellboy 3 and Pacific Rim 2 to stew in limbo. With Trollhunters animated Netflix series and a film adaptation titled Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, the director still has time to at least plan new projects.

His next film, for Fox Searchlight, is The Shape of Water, which follows Elisa (Sally Hawkins), a mute young woman who works as a janitor at a laboratory in 1963, during the height of the Cold War. Elisa falls in love with the amphibious man being held at the lab, and she enlists the help of a neighbour to set him free.

Once they escape, Elisa learns that life outside the lab may be more dangerous for her lover. Richard Jenkins, Octavia Spencer, and Michael Stuhlbarg are all in talks to star.
