'Hacksaw Ridge' and 'Allied' Gets Chinese Theatrical Release Dates
Mel Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge will debut in China on Thursday, December 8, which proves to be one of the biggest months for cinema in the Middle Kingdom. It's a pretty late addition to the calendar, which is not usually the norm. It may suggest a slacker approach to things going forward from the regulations board.
Robert Zemeckis' Allied makes it two debuting World War II pics in China. That particular one, starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard, will debut n November 30.
After a mid-year box office slump, it seems China is slacking on their rules that typically allow only 34 foreign films per year. So too, have regulators normally operated a blackout period in December, which prevents non-Chinese debuts in an attempt to promote local films.
