Hans Zimmer on Creating that Epic Wonder Woman Theme in Batman v Superman
Hans Zimmer's discography is nothing to scoff at, a lengthy and impressive resume of epic sounds to accompany films made by a range of amazing artists and workers.
The composer teamed up with Junkie XL for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, himself taking on the Man of Steel reigns as a continuation of his work on Snyder's first DC universe film, while Junkie XL (or Tom Holkenborg).
Hans Zimmer is adamant: "I think you're just born with it or you're not." He doesn't believe any musician can make the jump to film scoring, which requires a deeper sense of story to accompany musical talent.
Applying this same sentiment to Holkenborg, who did make the jump, Zimmer cited a specific sound designed for Batman v Superman. "We finally came up with a motif for Wonder Woman. It was pretty daring and noisy and out-there. I knew it was good, but I didn't quite know how to marry it to the character.
"I remember Junkie being very specific: 'OK, go to this frame and just lay it up against the frame.' We played it back, and it was one of those great shocks: I thought it would never work, and it worked like magic.
"I remember looking at him and going, 'Hmm... great story sense; great filmmaker here.'"
Zimmer already has superhero status next to his name, but Holkenborg can now add this one alongside Deadpool, staking his own claim for the title with the brutally loud and magnificent sounds designed for the epic superhero bout.
