Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to be Released as the Eighth Book in the Series
Despite J.K. Rowlings Harry Potter book series coming to an end in 2007, the franchise has far from died. This year alone, it is getting a revival with the Eddie Redmayne-led Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in November, as well as the opening of Universal Studios' The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
And that's not to mention the West End debut of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in the summer, which has been confirmed for a shelf appearance as a published play (note, not a novelisation of the stage production). It will be a "special rehearsal edition" of the script book, and hardcover and digital editions will become available on July 31, which is both the day after the West End debut and, fittingly, Harry Potter's birthday.
Described as the eighth story, taking place nineteen years later, Cursed Child follows Harry in adulthood, working at the Ministry of Magic and juggling a family. The official description reads:
“While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.”
