Has Daniel Craig Officially Called it Quits on 'Bond'?
The press tour leading up to Spectre is infamous for Daniel Craig's insistence that he didn't want to play the role anymore. This tour included Sam Mendes' announcement that he would not return to direct Bond 25, the next installment in the neverending franchise.
While the actor has come out and declared that he's done with 007, The Daily Male is reporting that Craig has walked away from a near $100 million payday, and will not return for another film. A source for The Daily Mail had this to say:
"Daniel is done, pure and simple, he told top brass at MGM after Spectre. They threw huge amounts of money at him, but it just wasn't what he wanted. He had told people after shooting that this would be his final outing, but the film company still felt he could come around after Spectre if he was offered a money deal."
With eleven years and four films in the role, Craig has given the franchise his all and can't be faulted for a committed and unique portrayal of the character. Any problems with the films (two of which were critically well received) had nothing to do with him, afterall.
The next question has to be, who takes the role if this is indeed Craig's exit? Tom Hiddleston and Idris Elba's names have been thrown around a bit, but time will certainly tell.
