Henry Cavill Says 'Batman v Superman' Won't Intentionally Address the Carnage from 'Man of Steel', Responds to Criticism
Man of Steel received mixed reviews from audiences and critics alike. A lot of fans criticised (and still do) the destruction of Metropolis, as well as Superman's actions against antagonist Zod.
While many (including this writer) believe that an action-heavy second half plagued the film and robbed it of any of the character's optimism or any of the intrigue built up in the opening half, Henry Cavill indicates that these gripes won't be addressed in Dawn of Justice.
"The reception of my first Superman movie, from what I've read, was fairly mixed," Cavill told Cineplex. "Everyone I've spoken to enjoyed the movie, but [not] unlike if you're going to meet a stranger in the street, they're not going to badmouth you to your face.
"There's no intentional move, I don't think, in Batman v Superman to address any issues that people had with Man of Steel. It's just a continuation of that storyline and they continue to develop that world and introduce new characters."
Given what we've learned in the trailer, it seems carnage and destruction is going to be a mainstay in the new DC extended universe. Intended or not, however, fans might still feel a little better about the fact that Bruce Wayne seems to have issues with Superman almost solely based on his actions in Man of Steel.
The movie opens March 25.
