Is the End of Caskett Near?
Wrapping up season eight of Castle with uncertainty in mind
Castle's seventh season ended in uncertainty due to stars Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic's contracts ending and the conclusion of season eight will see the show in a similar position. Fillion and Katic's contracts are up again and with that in mind showrunners Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter hope to bring season eight to a satisfactory close. With episode 15 currently shooting Hawley admitted that “we’re definitely getting to a point where we need to figure out what episodes 21 and 22 are, which is why we are having these discussions now.” Winter added “everything that has been set up will come to a conclusion this season.”
And while season eight could possibly be the last, Hawley and Winter are already planning season nine to be a return to the show's roots. Hawley stated that “we wanted to wrap up a lot of the threads of different conspiracies, Beckett’s mother’s murder, Castle’s missing time. We wanted by the end of season eight to have gotten through all those — hopefully in a compelling and satisfying way — so season nine can be more about the case of the week, going back to the fun of solving the case of the week and not have the luggage of past conspiracies.”
The mid-season finale saw Cate and Rick reaffirm their love for one another and determined to take down Locksat. Season eight of Castle resumes Monday, February 8th on ABC at 10/9c.
