J. Michael Straczynski Comic 'Rising Stars' Optioned for Film
MGM has optioned J. Michael Straczynski's Rising Stars for the big screen. Via Deadline, Straczynski will reportedly pen the script.
The creator is best known for creating Babylon 5 before jumping onto comics for some time. building up a solid portfolio and fanbase including a run on The Amazing Spider-Man.
Rising Stars follows a small town where 113 people are born with special powers following a meteor strike. The 24-issue series ran from 1999 to 2005. It tackled politics and pop culture, and everything in between, to tell the story of how a group of people with superhuman abilities could change the world.
Honest intentions have had the property pegged for adaptation for some time, though early on it was considered too risky to bring it to the small screen, back when Smallville was running and fans may note significant similarities between the two.
