James Cameron Moving Forward with Avatar Sequels
Having now been six years since Avatar released to awe-inspired audiences worldwide, it's hard to believe anyone is still anticipating with any enthusiasm James Cameron's return to the visual spectacle that is the Avatar world.
Nevertheless, Cameron is moving forward with the project, and with three sequels now planned (as opposed to the original two), Cameron has given us a rundown on where he's at with the monstrous project.
"I'm in the process of doing another pass through all three scripts right now... just refining. That's in parallel with the design process. The design process is very mature at this point. We've been designing for about a year and a half. All the characters, settings and creatures are all pretty much [set]."
All of that equates to a man who wants us to believe this things is pretty close to ready to go, by the sounds of it. Considering the first Avatar took four years to film, this task is actually coming along much quicker.
The original had such a technological and distributional impact on film that it's given a reprieve for its lengthy pre-production. Hopefully, Cameron can wow us in even greater ways going forward.
Production will take place entirely in New Zealand, back-to-back-to-back with all three sequels at once. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver will all return (Weaver in a new role).
