Jennifer Connelly Joins 'Alita: Battle Angel'
James Cameron and director Robert Rodriguez are shaping up their manga adaptation of Alita: Battle Angel, and with filming late in production in Austin, Texas, a new name has been added to the cast.
Academy Award-winner Jennifer Connelly has joined on as a villain in the upcoming film, via THR. Nothing more is known about her character at this time, though she does join Christoph Waltz, Mahershala Ali, Jackie Earle Haley, Ed Krein, and Rosa Salazar. It's an impressive lineup.
Yukito Kishiro's manga series from which the film is based off of is set in the distant future, and follows a young female cyborg who is rescued from a junkyard by a kindly doctor. Alita has no memories of the past, and sets out to discover the truth behind her existence. Back in 1999, Cameron intended on following Titanic with the project, having acquired the rights and spent the following decade in development. Avatar, obviously, took priority after some time.
Alita: Battle Angel will arrive July 20, 2018.
