Jessica Chastain Offered Starring Role in Directorial Debut for Aaron Sorkin, 'Molly's Game'
Jessica Chastain has appeared in a great number of films in recent years, working with some of the top filmmaking talent in the industry (with the likes of Christopher Nolan and Ridley Scott, to name just two).
Now, she gets the chance to take on a script by Aaron Sorkin. What's more, it will be the writer's first foray into directing. Based on the book by Molly Bloom, the true story of Molly's Game follows how the athlete and law student ended up running an exclusive high-stakes Hollywood poker game.
The players in the game included Ben Affleck and Toby Maguire, and, not to her knowledge, members of the Russian mafia. The book synopsis is as follows:
Molly Bloom reveals how she built one of the most exclusive, high-stakes underground poker games in the world—an insider’s story of excess and danger, glamour and greed.
Molly Bloom reveals how she built one of the most exclusive, high-stakes underground poker games in the world—an insider’s story of excess and danger, glamour and greed.en. Everyone wanted in, few were invited to play.
Hundreds of millions of dollars were won and lost at her table. Molly’s game became the game for those in the know—celebrities, business moguls, and millionaires. Molly staged her games in palatial suites with beautiful views and exquisite amenities. She flew privately, dined at exclusive restaurants, hobnobbed with the heads of Hollywood studios, was courted by handsome leading men, and was privy to the world’s most delicious gossip, until it all came crashing down around her.
No production date has been set, and word has it that Chastain is trying to figure out where she can fit the project into her schedule. The project comes from Sony, and the story certainly sounds intriguing to say the least.
