Joel Edgerton to Join Jennifer Lawrence in 'Red Sparrow'
Deadline is reporting that Joel Edgerton (Midnight Special, Loving) is in talks to join Jennifer Lawrence in the upcoming espionage thriller Red Sparrow, based on Jason Matthews' novel.
Set in present-day Russia, the film follows a Russian intelligence officer (Lawrence) as she struggles for survival in a post-soviet intelligence jungle. She is ordered to become a Sparrow, a trained seductress, assigned to operate against a young CIA officer who handles the Agency's most important Russian mole.
Francis Lawrence, who directed the final three Hunger Games films, is set to helm this one, from a screenplay by Eric Warren, whose credits include American Hustle, along with Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road).
