'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle' writers returning for the sequel
The screenwriting duo of Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinker will return to pen the sequel to Sony Pictures’ redux blockbuster Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle starring Karen Gillian, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black.
After an impressive $350 million domestic and $860 million international haul, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has proved its box office valor by earning the inevitable sequel treatment from Sony brass. According to Deadline, the sequel will indeed reunite our redux stars Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillian, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black in a story written by Welcome to the Jungle’s original creative duo, Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinker.
Set twenty-one years after the first film, ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ follows four teenagers who are transported into the digital world of “Jumanji,” playing as the characters they chose, who must overcome the game's magical power in order to ‘win’ and most importantly return home.
Dwayne Johnson will produce under his Seven Bucks Production team and though it hasn’t been made official, Welcome to the Jungle director Jake Kasdan is expected back to see Rosenberg and Pinker’s vision through. The duo are also writing the script for Sony’s “Venom,” which stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Woody Harrelson, Riz Ahmed and Jenny Slate scheduled for Oct. 5.
No doubt this should come as welcome news for those who enjoyed one of 2017’s genuine surprises. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is still in theaters. Catch it while you can!
