'Jurassic World 2' Looks to Cast Toby Jones, Rafe Spall
Variety is reporting negotiations for the addition of two new cast members to the Jurassic World series with Toby Jones and Rafe Spall in talks for roles in the sequel.
The duo would join Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, who reprise their starring roles from 2015's box office smash hit. Reports indicate that two other major roles will be screen tested, but Jones and Spall are the priority for the time being.
J.A. Bayona takes over directorial duties from Colin Trevorrow, who co-wrote the script for the sequel with Derek Connolly. Jurassic World 2 is said to be a step up in terms of suspense and horror from the first World film. "It's just the way it's designed," Trevorrow said.
“Obviously, when you have Chris Pratt it will also be very funny. But it will be darker: it is a second step in a trilogy, and the second step is always dark like in 'The Empire Strikes Back' or ‘The Wrath of Khan.'”
Of course, any opportunity a filmmaker gets to name drop The Empire Strikes Back, they take it. The film is slated for June 22, 2018.
