Kathleen Kennedy Teases a Big Role to Play for Mon Mothma in 'Rogue One'
Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will take us back to the original trilogy, which may well be more enticing than even The Force Awakens, particularly for some long-running fans of the franchise.
Fan-favourite character Mon Mothma, who was a former senator and a leader of the Rebel Alliance, is another character who is set to make their mark on the anthology film. The character first appeared in Return of the Jedi, though she only appeared for about two minutes.
So when the character appeared in the trailer for Rogue One, fans were understandably excited. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed to EW that the character will have a significant role to play.
“We actually see quite a bit of her,” she revealed. “The Rebel alliance is in disarray. Pretty panicked. Up against it. And she is trying the best she can to provide the leadership, in amongst a wide variety of Rebel soldiers that have very differing opinions as to what to do.”
The character was originally set to appear in 2005's Revenge of the Sith, though this ended up on the cutting room floor and as a deleted scene. Edwards has brough Genevieve O'Rielly, who played the misused character in 05, back for the prequel.
