The LEGO Movie reigns supreme at the box office

LEGO Film Franchise Producer Roy Lee Teases Batman, LEGO Cameos and Franchise Future

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell The LEGO Movie pretty much came out of nowhere to prove an enormous cultural hit, and naturally a franchise is well and truly in the works. We've got The LEGO Movie 2 in the works, as well as The LEGO Batman Movie, Ninjago, and The Billion Brick Race, and that's only in the next few years.

Producer Roy Lee spoke with Collider regarding the franchise, in particular The Lego Batman Movie. Lee is notably excited about the design of Gotham City and the surrounding LEGO Movie universe.

"Seeing where Batman lives in full LEGO, the audience will love. Seeing Gotham City fully rendered in LEGO. It's currently being animated right now because it's the next movie coming out. Batman will have the same character choices as he had in The LEGO Movie."

Regarding Ninjago, which built a solid following through its original Cartoon Network animated series, Lee said fans will be "blown away by the look and feel and huge scope of how we've expanded the universe of Ninjago."

And finally, speaking about The LEGO Movie sequel, Lee discussed the characters he hopes to see worked into the film. "The first movie we got a lot of cameos, and it's not hard to get them to say yes, especially when they already have deals with LEGO.

"Having Star Wars, you would think would be almost the hardest thing to get, and if we got Star Wars, there's other things that would be a lot easier."

Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Lando Calrissian all made a cameo in The LEGO Movie aboard the Millennium Falcon, so there's really no limits to what they can bring to the table come the next film. And fans of all ages should at least be a little excited about what's to come and which of their favourite franchises they may get to see come to LEGO life.
