Liam Neeson in Scorsese's 'Silence'
Actor Liam Neeson spoke about his latest movie 'Silence' and his collaboration with director Martin Scorsese in an interview at the Los Cabos Film Festival. The movie is based on a book by Shushaku Endo about missionaries in 17th C Japan, a dangerous time for Christians as they face prosecution by the Shogun.
According to Variety, Neeson said "[Scorsese] gives 200%. All he requires is that you give 100%. He’s intimidating,” He added. “He requires absolute silence on the set — if he hears one tiny sound, it shatters it for him.” This is his second film with Scorsese after the 2002 'Gangs of New York'.
Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver co-star in Silence and play two Jesuit priests who travel in Japan to spread the gospel. They are also in search of their mentor (Neeson) who is rumored to have abandoned his faith.
It appears that the roles are also physically demanding. "Martin requires a lot of commitment" Neeson said at the press conference. He explained that he and his co-stars had to drop weight to appear gaunt in this movie.
Silence will arrive in theatres in 2016.
