Lionsgate Hoping for Seven More 'Power Rangers' Films
It's no secret that Lionsgate needs a big franchise to help pick them up. They're becoming a kind of one-hit wonder in studio terms, famous for their young adult franchises but not much else.
With The Hunger Games in the past, Twilight long gone, and the Divergent series a flunk, next year's reintegration of the Power Rangers is something the studio desperately hopes will give them a powerhouse franchise to steady the ship.
The studio has told analysts that they are hoping to make "five, six, or seven of them," referring to the potential franchise. This isn't surprising given the world of extended universes we live in, but it certainly is bold.
This year the studio has La La Land, Nerve, and Now You See Me 2 to come, which it's confident can be successful for them. 2017, it hopes, is the year of the Power Ranger.
