Live Action-Animated Hybrid Feature Film in the Works Based on the Art of Lisa Frank
Lisa Frank specialises in selling merchandise with colourful psychedelic designs, and now a big screen film is in development based on her world, with producer Jon Shestack leading the way. The live-action/animated hybrid doesn't have a title, but Shestack made a statement on the project.
“Lisa Frank’s world is cheerful, it’s optimistic, it’s hip, but it is without snark,” Shestack said. “It’s just sort of impossible to scowl when you’re smiling, and why would you want to? I’m so stoked to be part of this.”
Shestack is set to see Before I Fall hit Sundance before its wide release on March 3 via Open Road Films, while other credits include Air Force One, Dan in Real Life, and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.
The Lisa Frank brand has existed since 1979, and incorporates rainbows, unicorms, Ballerina Bunies, dolphins, and bears, making for a "Fantastic World."
“I have always wanted to do a feature film that brings the world of Lisa Frank to life,” Frank said. “We have so much backstory on our characters and they have been alive in my imagination since the beginning.”
