'Lucifer' Renewed for Season 3 at Fox
Fox has renewed Lucifer for a third season, which will consist of 22 episodes, and which will presumably premiere later this year. Starring Tom Ellis, the series follows the devil himself working with the LAPD to take down criminals.
"Lucifer is one of those rare shows that starts strong out of the gate, and just keeps getting better and better," said network entertainment president David Madden. "Tom, Lauren [German] and the entire cast have really made these characters three-dimensional."
The series is very loosely based on the DC Comics series Lucifer, which itself spins out of Neil Gaiman's legendary The Sandman. Fox reports that the series averages 8 million viewers across all of its platforms, enough to earn it an early pickup.
Lucifer becomes the third renewal for Fox this year, after The Simpsons and Empire. The series will return from its season 2 hiatus from May 1.
