M. Night Shyamalan's 'Split' Tracking for Top Spot on Opening Weekend
M. Night Shyamalan's new film Split is being touted as the director's return to form, and it's now tracking comfortably ahead of its competition for a strong opening weekend tally of $28 million.
Vin Diesel's xXx: Return of Xander Cage is tracking for second spot, looking at a $20 million payday. Historical drama Hidden Figures is looking to hold out for third spot, earning $16 million. The Founder continues to gain a little fanfare, looking at a $3 to $4 million earning.
Recent expectations had Split around the $20 million mark, so it's tracking comfortably ahead of that. This is likely due to the positive reviews that have come early Some estimates project that the film could hit as high as $35 million on its first weekend.
The film stars James McAvoy as a man with 24 personalities. Shyamalan directs from his own script the film, based off of true events, which sees McAvoy's character compelled to abduct three women.
