series premiere: disturbing, yet tasty

At first, a Hannibal series at NBC didn’t sound too exciting. But when they signed Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen, the winner of Best Actor at Cannes last year, our interest was piqued.
Writer Bryan Fuller (creator of Pushing Daisies) calls it elegant horror, the new show about the early relationship of FBI profiler Will Graham and Dr. Hannibal Lecter. It has to become the definitive Hannibal, he says. Quite a statement, after Anthony Hopkins won an Academy Award for his portrayal, and The Silence of the Lambs became an instant classic. But it’s been a long time. And it was pretty much downhill from The Silence of the Lambs. So now is as good a time as any for some of the most talented people in tv to give Hannibal a shot as well.
