Quentin Tarantino as Mr. Brown
filmOA | feature
Since 1992, Tarantino has gone to become one of the most talked about and biggest box office successes in Hollywood. No matter what his latest film is, its an almost guaranteed box office smash. After Reservoir Dogs he made arguably his masterpiece, Pulp Fiction, which earned him his only Oscar to date and since Pulp Fiction, Tarantino has written and directed five more films, including his most recent Django Unchained. Django Unchained truly shows how far Tarantino has come since his independent debut.
He is a key name in Hollywood and can now demand budgets in excess of $100 million dollars, a far cry from the $1 million he was given to make Reservoir Dogs. With the reputation he has built himself, he can attract a cast of riches and deliver a film people will flock in their millions to watch. All this without losing the relevance and unique style he first portrayed in his debut, which demonstrates the power Reservoir Dogs has given Tarantino.
Reservoir Dogs will stand the test of time for many decades to come. It will continue to be viewed with the same enthusiasm as it did back in 1992. Granted, Reservoir Dogs is a mountain some audiences can’t climb, simply because of it’s violent nature and rude language, but that’s where the true genius of the film lies. It has affected audiences in some way or another. It’s a film some audiences may not watch again, but it’s also a film they won’t be forgetting.
With that mindset, the film still remains fresh today with an air of intrigue constantly surrounding it. It’s a film that changed the film landscape for the better, and gave a voice to independent filmmakers around the world. Its the measuring stick for independent films and will hold on to the tag of the greatest independent film ever made for a long time to come.
