Marvel-Netflix Rundown - Everything We Saw and Learned at SDCC
Netflix and Marvel kicked things off in a big day for San Diego Comic-Con, teasing its entire slate of superhero installments and previewing a ton of new footage. That's not mentioning one big announcement regarding the hero that started it all for the streaming giant...
Daredevil Gets a Third Season
Netflix and Marvel started their partnership with Daredevil, which exceeded all expectations and went on to produce a widely adored second season. While we didn't hear anything regarding that Punisher spin-off, we will be getting a third season of the gritty superhero series. So Marvel TV fans, and fans of gloomier superhero fare, can rejoice.
Marvel's "Luke Cage" - First Trailer
"This is really an era in which it's a fascinating time to have a bulletproof black man exist in the world." Showrunner Cheo Hodari Choker had plenty to say during the panel, essentially presenting a series that could only work in a contemporary setting. Having Luke Cage front and center for his own show can only be a good thing, so all we can do is hope Netflix and Marvel continue their glorious track record. The first teaser trailer is pretty much one continuous sequence, but it's a pretty great first look.
First Footage Debuts for "Iron Fist"
It's not even a minute long, but we get a solid look at what Iron Fist is going to be like. And while it certainly isn't veering away from the street-level grittiness inherent in this world that Netflix has created, it has a notably brighter aesthetic to the previous trailer we saw for Luke Cage. Given Iron Fist delves more into the supernatural side of things, it's small wonder, but there's no doubt that it'll work within context as things roll toward The Defenders. Speaking of which...
First Teaser Trailer for "The Defenders"
There's not a lot to see in this one, but it's a reminder to fans everywhere that this is happening. The Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist team-up will have been well earned by the time all four shows have met their audience. The video is really only going to appeal to major fans, and there's a particularly heavy cliche dished out in the final seconds via the only dialogue of the trailer. Nevertheless, something is always better than nothing.
Netflix-Marvel Sizzle Reel
The company has put together a pretty cool video for our enjoyment, which melds Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage into one very cool highlights reel of the three shows. There's certainly going to be more to come from Marvel this weekend, but this is a pretty big way to kick things off.
