Marvel Rejected Early Doctor Strange Vision from Neil Gaiman and Guillermo Del Toro
Doctor Strange production is well underway, but there was at one point a version for the film offered to Marvel from the minds of Neil Gaiman and Guillermo del Toro.
While it was believed at the time that the plans fell through due to del Toro simply having no time, it seems that Marvel may have had different plans for the character.
On the 27th of November, Gaiman tweeted saying "I still wish Marvel had been interested in a [Guillermo del Toro] & me Dr Strange movie, because I wanted to write Clea so badly after 1602".
1602 was a Marvel comic book published between November 2003 and June 2004, and the rights to Doctor Strange went into Paramount's lap in April 2005 as apart of original plans for the Marvel cinematic universe.
It may have been that their vision simply came too early to the table. While we'll never know what that particular film might have been, we can be at least hopeful that Scott Derrickson's take on the character will put even the thought of it well behind us.
