Marvel TV Head Talks Down The Punisher Series Potential
With Marvel and Netflix's deal, the plan was to create standalone seasons for Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, then tossing them together for a team-up miniseries.
Due to the overwhelming success of their first two shows, both have been given second season orders, with Daredevil to arrive next. Introducing fan-favourite character Punisher (Jon Bernthal), there were early reports that suggested a spinoff is in the works.
Marvel Head Jeph Loeb has quelled those rumours. Speaking with Digital Sp, Loeb said "I think that's something that people are speculating on, as opposed to something that's actually happening. It;s certainly our hope that any of our characters will be embraced and that people want to see more of them."
It sounds as though he's shutting down speculation pretty emphatically, though the buzz is sure to be something the heads at Marvel and Netflix are paying attention to, especially given that they've already tinkered with their TV format in the lead-up to an eventual Defenders series.
