'Mary Poppins Returns' Adds Ben Whishaw to Cast
Walt Disney Pictures has added Ben Whishaw to the cast of Mary Poppins Returns, which stars Emily Blunt as the title character, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack, and Meryl Streep as Poppins' cousin Topsy.
THR reports that Whishaw will play the grown-up Michael Banks. Rob Marshall is directing the film, as well as producing. David Magee writes the scsript, based on The Mary Poppins Stories by P.L. Travers. Oscar nominee and Tony Award winner Marc Shaiman is composing an all-new score.
The film will follow a grown-up Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael's three children, are visited by Poppins following a personal loss. It opens December 25, 2018.
