'Mary Poppins' Sequel is in the works

ZachPerilstein ZachPerilstein Disney Reporter The charming Disney live action mixed with animation classic seems to be finding its way back to the big screen.

Fifty years after Mary Poppins first said "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" it seems like she will be saying it again real soon. Hollywood Reporter recently confirmed that Disney is developing a live action sequel to the film. The new story will be twenty years after the original with Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke and will most likely have a new cast. The new film will take ideas from P.L Traver original 'Mary Poppins' book series.

Director Rob Marshall, who was director for 'Into the Woods' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Strangers Tide', will be tackling this upcoming musical project.

Disney haven't confirmed if Richard M. Sherman (the classic songwriter for many Disney films and theme park attractions) will have any involvement in the sequel. It was however confirmed a new song writing duo will be working on this project. Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who previously worked on "Hairspray" and NBC TV Show "Smash", will be writing new songs and a new score.

Life of Pi's David Magee will be writing the screenplay. 'Into the Woods' producers John DeLuca and Marc Platt will be producing it.

Sure seems like the resurrection of "Mary Poppins' is in good hands!
