Mel Gibson Directing 'The Barbary Coast' TV Series, Starring Kate Hudson and Kurt Russell

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Following his work on WWII drama Hacksaw Ridge, which starred Andrew Garfield, Mel Gibson now has his sights set on TV. With Kurt Russell and Kate Hudson lined up to star, Gibson is set to direct an adaptation of The Barbary Coast, which he will also write.

Gibson will play a recurring role in the series, according to Deadline. The book is about the early days of San Francisco, written by Herbert Asbury. The project is still being shopped around, with no one yet picking it up.

“Most people don’t know the scandalous history behind San Francisco, and The Barbary Coast offers a rich portrayal of a period when success was often attained through illicit and brutal means. I’m excited that Kurt and Kate are working together alongside Mel, whose astute direction will bring this devious time in our history to life," said producer Mark Gordon.
