Michael Fassbender Met for a Role in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'
Michael Fassbender has given some stunning performance in recent years, and has displayed the kind of range that puts him near the top of any list of modern actors. With Steve Jobs and 12 Years a Slave two past films in which he certainly shows his talent, So when we hear that he met for a role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we can't help but wonder what that would have been like.
Collider first reported the quote, from the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Fassbender didn't have a lot to say other than simply confirming the news itself. "We talked about a role. We had a conversation. I’m pretty sure I was busy doing something else in the summer he was kickstarting that."
What that role was, he doesn't disclose. It may have been Poe Dameron, which fits with Fassbender's notable on-screen charisma, but he may also have been up for an imperial role.
The news also makes for an interesting prospect in the future. Fassbender is one of those rare actors that seems to balance blockbuster franchise roles with smaller, at time independent-level ones, considering his three films in the X-Men franchise and his upcoming reprisal of his Prometheus role in Alien: Covenant. Could he make the leap to a galaxy far, far away in the future?
Fassbender can be seen now in Assassin's Creed alongside Marion Cotillard.
