Michael Shannon is Uninterested in Appearing in Blockbuster Marvel or Star Wars Films
Michael Shannon has been appearing in a lot of movies lately. The 42 year-old actor is, however, being selective, it seems, and doesn't seem all too interested in blockbuster filmmaking anymore, following his villainous role in Man of Steel a few years ago.
Speaking with Fandango, he revealed that he is only interested in big-budget Hollywood films if the story itself is interesting. Man of Steel caught his attention because its tale of a destroyed civilization seeking a new planet mirrors our own climate change issues.
"No, I’m not really looking for that," Shannon said of Marvel or Star Wars films, when asked. "They called me recently about some iteration – I won’t say – but some version of a movie that’s been made already countless times," he revealed. "They were gonna give me a lot of of money, but I was like nah. Big movie, too. But I have to think it’s an interesting story. If I don’t, I can’t do it. I won’t do it."
As of late, his most recent films are Nocturnal Animals and, briefly, Loving, both in which he puts in the same high standard of work we've come to expect from an actor of his caliber.
