Michelle Williams Joins Julianne Moore in Todd Haynes' Next Project, 'Wonderstruck'
Michelle Williams has been missing in action a little bit since 2013's Oz the Great and Powerful, with her only film since a WWII drama that hasn't seen U.S. release yet.
This year, however, she starred in two acclaimed movies that premiered at Sundance, Kelly Reychardt's Certain Woman and Kenneth Lonergan's Manchester by the Sea.
Next up, she joins Julianne Moore in Todd Haynes' Wonderstruck, which is based on Hugo author Brian Selznick's award-winning book. The story tells that of two different time periods, 1927 and 1977, and follows the interconnected lives of death children Ben and Rose.
The synopsis is as follows: Ben and Rose secretly wish their lives were different. Ben longs for the father he has never known. Rose dreams of a mysterious actress whose life she chronicles in a scrapbook. When Ben discovers a puzzling clue in his mother's room and Rose reads an enticing headline in the newspaper, both children set out alone on desperate quests to find what they are missing.
Fascinatingly, Ben's tale is told in words while Rose's is in pictures. Williams will play Ben's mother in the film, which is being released and produced by Amazon Studios. No production date has been set, though it sounds like it won't be long away.
