'Mr. Robot' Renewed for a Third Season at USA
USA Network has given Mr. Robot a third season, set to air in 2017.
The series, created by Sam Esmail, is in the middle of its second season, and has been nominated for six Emmy Awards, quickly becoming the network's biggest original show, likely of all time.
Given that viewership has steadily declined for the show despite critical acclaim, the renewal was not a sure thing. Delayed viewings and streaming numbers have, however, remained solid.
“We couldn’t be more proud of Mr. Robot, a series that has pushed boundaries, captured the cultural zeitgeist, and been honored as one of the best dramas on television,” said Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “Midway through its second season, Mr. Robot continues to break new ground and open up new opportunities for the network.”
The series stars Rami Malek as a brilliant programmer who works as a cyber-security engineer, and who is drafted into a team of underground hackers devoted to bringing down the massive conglomerate E-Corp. Season 2 is currently dealing with the aftermath of last year's attack.
