National Society of Film Critics Names 'Spotlight' Best Picture
The investigative journalism tale based on true events won the best film award of 2015 by the National Society of Film Critics. On top of that, co-writers Josh Singer and Tom McCarthy, who also directed, was honoured for best screenplay.
Outside of Spotlight, Carol took home two awards, one for director Todd Haynes and the other for cinematographer Ed Lachman. For the actors, it was Michael B. Jordan who was named best actor for his role in Creed, and Charlotte Rampling as best actress for 45 Years.
Mark Rylance and Kristen Stewart won best supporting awards for Bridge of Spies and Clouds of Sils Maria, respectively.
The non-fiction film award went to Amy, the documentary based on Amy Winehouse. Timbuktu was named the best foreign language film of the year.
Interestingly, Mad Max: Fury Road, which exceeded all expectations, came in as a runner up in best picture, director, and cinematography categories.
