Neil Bomkamp's Alien Sequel to Focus on Hicks and Newt
While it's unclear whether Blomkamp's Alien 5 has been shelved indefinitely or simply put on short-term hold to make way for Ridley Scott's Prometheus sequel, sources suggest that the film is indeed coming, and it will feature two major characters from way back in Aliens.
Michael Biehn, who played Hicks, provided an Alien 5 update while speaking with Icons of Fright. He said that the film is very much alive, and will be the number one priority following the completion of Covenant.
"I know Ridley Scott is doing his movie first and is going to be the executive producer on this one, so I'm really looking forward to that," Biehn said. "I know that Ridley's focus is on the second Prometheus and I'm sure that he and Fox both don't want that and Neil's movie to come out right next to each other."
"They're planning on bringing me and Newt back, and at this point Newt will be around 27 years old. I know that every actress in Hollywood is going to want t play this one, it's really a passing of the torch between Sigourney and this younger actress who would play Newt."
Biehn is insistent that the brakes have simply been put on temporarily, which makes sense given the less than stellar reviews for Prometheus. It'd be risky for the company to throw two Alien universe films in the works without determining whether this thing has steam come release.
