New Character Details Emerge About Leonardo DiCaprio's Role in Tarantino's ‘69 Film
Now that you’ve had a week to simmer in last week’s Leonardo DiCaprio - Quentin Tarantino news, Deadline has confirmed some juicy details regarding Leo’s role.
According to Mike Fleming Jr. at Deadline, the 43-year old Oscar-winner will play an actor who starred in a Western show, Bounty Law, that ran from 1958 to 1963. His attempt to transition to movies didn’t quite work out and in 1969 - DiCaprio's character finds himself guesting on other shows while contemplating going to the hotbed for low-budget Westerns - Italy - of all places. Who knew?
Fleming also reports Tarantino is eyeing another male lead in addition to ‘The King of the World’ - with one of them being Tom Cruise. While we await additional casting announcements, multiple outlets report Tarantino has met with Margot Robbie for the role of Sharon Tate - which has yet to be confirmed.
Fleming's report seems to coincide with previous insider sources saying the story will focus on a television actor (DiCaprio) and his stunt double who are looking for their next project while also featuring Charles Manson and Sharon Tate as a backdrop. Repeat: Tom Cruise as DiCaprio's stunt double? Give me.
" Set in Los Angeles in the summer of 1969, Tarantino’s upcoming movie, according to a source who read the script, focuses on a male TV actor who’s had one hit series and his [sic] looking for a way to get into the film business. His sidekick—who’s also his stunt double—is looking for the same thing. The horrific murder of Sharon Tate and four of her friends by Charles Manson’s cult of followers serves as a backdrop to the main story."
So far all of this news passes the proverbial sniff test. Production is set to begin mid-2018 for a August 9, 2019 release date.
