No End in Sight for the Bourne Franchise
Universal has managed to keep the blood flowing in its Jason Bourne franchise despite the failed attempt at branching away from Matt Damon as the titular character, which in and of itself isn't quite as bad as memory serves.
With Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon reunited for the new film, it seems there is no end in sight. The Playlist is reporting that Universal chairwoman Donna Langley recently commented on Universal's overriding goal to keep the films alive for as long as possible.
Damon has spoken to The New York Times, reiterating that he would find it hard to turn down more sequels given how adored the films are.
“Even though Matt and Paul had been very definitive about not wanting to come back, we weren’t really willing to submit to that…Look, here’s what I think the goal is: to keep Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass doing Bourne movies till they can’t do them anymore," Langley said.
Damon's words were a little more personal. “At a certain point, I said to Paul, ‘People really want to see this movie, and that’s not something to turn our noses up at…Having made movies that didn’t find an audience, I didn’t want to thumb our nose at this opportunity.
"“It’s this weird thing where you can’t give them exactly the same thing, or they’ll be resentful…But you have to give them enough of something they recognize that they feel like they’re getting what they paid for.”
