Oprah Winfrey's 'The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks' Gets Premiere Date on HBO
HBO has set The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, which stars Oprah Winfrey and Rose Byrne, for a Saturday, April 22 premiere at 8PM. It tells the true story of an African-American woman whose cells were used to create the first immortal human cell line.
The film is told through the eyes of her daughter, Deborah Lacks, played by Winfrey, and will chronicle her search to learn about the mother she never knew and to understand how to unauthorized harvesting of her cancerous cells in 1951 lead to unprecedented medical breakthroughs. She's operates with the assistance of journalist Rebecca Skloot (Byrne). Elise Goldsberry, Rocky Carroll, Kyanna Simone Simpson, Courtney B. Vance, Leslie Uggams, Reg E. Cathey, Reed Birney, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, John Douglas Thompson, Adriane Lenox, Roger Robinson and Melvin Van Peebles all round out the cast.
George C. Wolfe directs from his own screenplay, while Winfrey, Alan Ball, Peter Macdissi, Carla Gardini and Lydia Dean Pilcher executive produce.
