Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser in Outlander

'Outlander' Will See an Internal Reboot for Its Second Season, Here's How

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Starz's time-traveling romance drama Outlander saw solid commercial success in season one, and earned Golden Globe nominations for two of its leads. But fans shouldn't expect more of the same in season 2, which can only be seen as a good thing.

The castles and kilts will be replaced by high-society parties in Paris as Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) attempt to join the Jacobite rebellion led by Charles Stuart (Adnrew Gower) with the goal of stopping the battle of Culloden before it can happen.

Executive producer Ronald D. Moore is a little concerned fans won't see the sharp tonal shift coming, and sees it as a "big challenge."

"It was a tougher book to adapt than the first book was, because it's more complex, it shifts time periods, it shifts point of view several times, it goes from Paris then back to Scotland, it's half in political conspiracy, who can you trust kind of story, then it's half a war story.

"It was a much bigger challenge to adapt that and figure out what kind of changes we were going to make and how to make it penetrable to an audience who has not read it."

As I stated, this is a good thing if only to show that TV show's can redesign themselves, hopefully without risk of losing success. It'll be interesting to see how fans respond whenthe show returns April 9.
