Pablo Schreiber Replaces Sean Harris as Mad Sweeney for 'American Gods'
The replacement had to be a quick one following Sean Harris' departure from Starz's American Gods production last week. The Neil Gaiman adaptation lost leprechaun Mad Sweeney with the departure, and had already fallen behind on its schedule a mere two weeks into production.
Now, the replacement has been announced, with Pablo Schreiber (Orange is the New Black) to replace Harris as Sweeney. The character was initially described by Starz as a "down on his luck leprechaun, who is having a hard time understanding how he lost his charm and way. Always up for a good fight, Sweeney is never deprived while in the employment of Mr. Wednesday."
Bryan Fuller and Michael Green are showrunners for the series, which details a war between the old, mythological gods and the new gods of the modern world, who represent greed, drugs, celebrity, technology to name a few. Ricky Whittle plays main character Shadow Moon, enlisted as the bodyguard of Mr. Wednesday, played by Ian McShane.
