'Pacific Rim 2' Begins Filming With Title Confirmed
Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega has announced the first day of filming via Instagram for his next franchise, with Pacific Rim 2 officially titled Pacific Rim: Malestrom.
The title has been rumoured for a while now. Boyega plays the son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost, who died in the first film. Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, and Levi Meaden all star in the film.
Steven S. DeKnight is directing the sequel, taking over from Guillermo del Toro. DeKnight comes from Netflix's Daredevil, and directs from a concept by del Toro and from a script by Derek Connolly (Jurassic World). So there's certainly some talent to suggest this will be a potential hit sequel.
While a few years will pass between the two films, not much is known. The film opens February 23, 2018.
