Peter Weir's 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' is Getting a Miniseries Remake
Australian classic Picnic at Hanging Rock, which came out in 1975 and is regarded as a deeply haunting tale directed by Peter Weir (and based on the novel by Joan Lindsay) is set for a remake, this time as a miniseries.
The fictional retelling of a true story follows a group of boarding school girls who go on a picnic with their teacher on Valentine's Day in 1900, before disappearing. The film subsequently details the community's reaction and the fallout to the disappearance.
“The 1975 film which was pivotal in establishing the modern Australian film industry. This series, based on the classic novel, will take viewers on a new and in depth journey into this incredibly iconic Australian story," said Foxtel head of drama Pennyy Win.
Fremantle Australia with Pay-TV company Foxtel is developing a 6-part miniseries that will have the chance to flesh out the ill-fated cast.
