Pierce Brosnan and Martin Campbell Team Up for Ernest Hemingway Adaptation

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Pierce Brosnan and Martin Campbell, having first teamed up for the 007 film Goldeneye, will tackle an adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's Across the River and Into the Trees.

Brosnan will star and Campbell will direct the film, to be produced by Robert MacLean, John Smallcombe, Kirstin Roegner, and Claudia Bluemhuber. William J. Immerman will executive produce.

BAFTA winner Peter Flannery and Oscar-nominated Michael Radford wrote the script, which follows an American officer serving in Italy directly after the second World War, facing the news of his terminal illness with disregard.

Determined to spend his weekend in quiet solitude, he he commandeers a military driver to facilitate a simple duck hunting trip and a visit to his old haunts in Venice. As his plans begin to unravel, a chance encounter with a young countess begins to kindle in him the hope of renewal (THR).

Published in 1950, the novel was Hemingway's last full-length release, inclusive of themes of love, war, youth and age. An october start in Venice, Italy is planned for the film's production.
