Pilot Ordered at Syfy for Superman Prequel Series 'Krypton'
In the wake of Man of Steel, and the eruption of small-screen superhero offerings in the lesser part of the last decade, the oft-teased Superman prequel series Krypton has received a pilot order at Syfy.
The series joins Supergirl as another TV series based around the Superman mythology, following the long-gone Smallville series. While Supergirl's future is up in the air, Kal-El's grandfather is set to steer the ship back at the doomed home planet of she and her cousin, who would one day be known as Superman.
David S. Goyer has been developing the series since late 2014. Syfy has confirmed the news following reports that Krypton was closing in on a pilot order. Goyer will executive produce, along with his writing duties. Colm McCarthy will direct the pilot.
Syfy has revealed official plot details as follows: [Krypton is] set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet. Krypton will follow Superman’s grandfather – whose House of El was ostracized and shamed – as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.
The idea seems to stem from Goyer's curiosity to go deeper, something he couldn't do for Man of Steel.
