'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' Gets a New Title in the U.K.
I'm not that familiar personally with the frequency of film title changes when they sail overseas, but it doesn't seem all that common in recent times. Particularly, it seems, when a film jumps from the U.S. to the U.K.
Nevertheless, that's what has happened this time around for the next Pirates of the Caribbean film. Titled Dead Men Tell No Tales in its country of origin, the film will instead be titled Salazar's Revenge.
Now, that's not a very good title, but really neither is Dead Men Tell No Tales, particularly when it's lined up alongside a previous film in the franchise, Dead Man's Chest. It feels like grasping at straws, but the title isn't really what matters in the end, at least in terms of film quality.
Salazar is, of course, the main villain of the new film. Javier Bardem plays the character, who is committed to seeing Jack Sparrow and any other pirate dead if they cross his path. Maybe the new title will be justified. But how often does the villain actually get his revenge in such blandly titled films?
