Pixar Executive Confirms 'Toy Story' Never Had an End in Sight
Speaking with Yahoo!, vice president of Pixar's creative team, Andrew Stanton, said that the company has always intended on continuing the Toy Story franchise for many years now.
“Nobody’s harder on us [about] making a great Toy Story movie than we are,” Stanton said. “We know what it feels like to hit the bull’s-eye. And that’s part of the reason we’ve delayed it, so that we can really nail it. I know there’s a lot of concern about ‘why a fourth?’ But the truth is, we always had the intention of continuing.”
Toy Story 4 was delayed earlier this year, and will come out on June 21, 2019. That delay was combated by the pushing of The Incredibles 2 up into June 15, 2018. On Toy Story, Stanton said that “The third movie was over in a beautiful way and completed a trilogy,” he said.
The fourth film will therefore begin a new story, and not continue the one we've seen. It's been mentioned previously that the next film will focus on Woody and his relationship with Bo Peep, veering away from the relationship between toys and their owners.
